A wonderful circa 1970s Japanese fine silk Kimono jacket. It's made from pure silk and has a red on black hand-tied 'polka dot' shibori batik finish. The red polka dots have not been printed onto the silk but are rather the result of a manual 'tie and dye' technique whereby each individual 'dot' has literally been tied off by hand prior to the fabric being dyed (you can see that each dot has a slightly different dimension). The jacket is fully lined. A favourite piece! Due to the intricate nature, shibori is one of the most expensive and labour intensive ways of dying fabric. Learn about Shibori here.
